Senator Moody recognized by Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities
8/29/2008
State Sen. Dan Moody has received the legislative leadership award from the Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities (GCDD). Moody is among a select group of lawmakers, journalists and advocates who have been recognized for their crucial roles in increasing public awareness of the issues that impact people with disabilities.
“The first step in treating any disease or developmental disability is to raise public awareness,” said Sen. Moody. “This is why the work of the Governor’s Council is so vital, because we’re not only raising awareness, but we are also impacting the lives of those who deal with these disabilities in a very positive way.”
Members of the GCDD selected Sen. Moody for this year’s award for his leadership on Senate Bill 507, which was signed by Governor Sonny Perdue in 2008. SB 507 ensures that children with disabilities who are eligible for care under Medicaid or Medicare have access to the best therapy services available. He received the award at the Council’s Making a Difference Annual Appreciation Ceremony.
“One of the reasons that we run for office is to help Georgia children and families,” Sen. Moody added. “That is why this award is such a great honor for me, because it highlights my efforts to assist children with developmental disabilities in any way I can. I am grateful for the Council’s recognition of my work.”
